the look on loki’s face tho

Perfect acting there, imo. It just screams, “oh, snap, my brother’s here” and he regresses to looking like a much younger version of himself, to a Loki that must have once been sought out countless times by his older brother to be disciplined after one too many pranks on the men and ladies of the court in Asgard.

It’s like the years melt away and both Loki and Thor are oblivious to anyone and everyone around them, their line of focus being solely on one another. Thor is the one that gets to him, really makes him lose that self-control, that self-assurance. He reduces him to being just Loki, rather than Loki the would-be conqueror, Loki who wants to destroy everything in his path. With and before Thor, he’s still his younger brother in so many ways; they have shared so much of themselves in the past with one another, he can’t just discard all of that.

Thor affects him, makes his blood boil, makes him weep, makes him yearn to be his equal. He stirs all these feelings in Loki, and subsequently, also in us as we watch his reaction to Thor coming to get him and pull him away from his captors.

…I just have a lot of Loki feels, okay.

What breaks my heart about the way Loki looks at Thor, and the way Thor just punts Tony out of the way like he doesn’t even matter, is that I have to wonder if this is what Loki’s been waiting for the whole time he was with the Chitauri.

Only Thor never came.

And now it’s too late.

Opinion Rant by me:After watching ‘Thor’ & ‘The Avengers’, these few moments in Loki’s story are the ones that affect me with the most empathy for Laufeyson’s plight. (note that i’m referring to the Hiddleston/Branagh/Whedon interpretation of Loki, which doesn’t strictly adhere to Marvel lore)Fully aware that the seeds of discord were already sown by his own hand in order to - in his mind - save the kingdom from the “idiotic” rule of his brother in an act of skewed martyrdom, he still stands by his friends; clearly fighting for his life and yet also defending his comrades in spite of himself.
This is the last time he will ever do so, ever stand in battle defending his friends and family. And it is also in the midst of this last act of naked selflessness that Loki also, unfortunately, receives confirmation of all his worst fears. The lifelong feelings of not belonging and seclusion in the midst of splendour all corroborated by the touch of what was supposed to be death. I think even the steeliest of hearts, if struck when at their most vulnerable, will forever carry the darkest scars.
This is the volta, the turning point if you will, where sentiment could still be a factor and he was not beyond redemption. The touch of a death eluded had changed him forever. If you can imagine, in Loki’s mind, he would have rather greeted death still believing in all he was raised to be, over survival and facing a truth that would kill his entire sense of himself.Sadly, the latter became his reality, and the rest, as they say, is history. These few moments of battle are haunting, to say the least.Loki was unmade in the face of death. I’d like to think he can be remade likewise.Whether it involves a need for selflessness, or martyrdom, i’d like to think he can come back. King. Son. Brother.

Only one of you can ascend to the throne.
But both of you were born to be kings.

Reblogging because of the tags and also because this line is a nod to Loki’s parentage  and I only just got that.

The Avengers according to the characters

tony: fly around, shooting shit, saving the day and making the ladies swoon, whilst engaging in homoerotic banter-but-not-really-banter with capsicle
natasha: beat up people with chairs, and make it so obvious that there's more between me and clint than friendship. kind of like budapest
clint: shoot shit at further distances than tony, and make it so obvious i've got a thing for nat. totally not like budapest
bruce: form a brOTP with stark, cause we're science soulmates. finally let loose, and i get the crowning moment
steve: look hot in tight suit. engage in homo-erotic banter with tony, whilst not knowing what homo-erotic is
thor: try to show loki i still love him, whilst laughing at petty, tiny humans
loki: get so many fangirls, that with a mere click of my fingers, i could have all nine realms on their knees

It did not matter. Loki hauls his unconscious brother onto his back and to safety. Picking up The Hammer was an afterthought.

I’ve been staring at this all morning, and I just have to express how in love with it I am. Beautiful execution. <3
